Weekend at West Branch

A Weekend at West Branch: June 11-12, 2011

Finalists are required to spend a weekend in West Branch (just east of Iowa City). This is a fun and casual weekend—no reports! There is no charge to students.

Learning about President and Mrs. Herbert Hoover offers a framework to understand the inspiration for the Hoover Uncommon Student Award. Special tours are arranged for students and guests of the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum (one of 12 in the nation) and the Hoover National Historic Site (one of two National Park Service units in Iowa).

Just as important are the relationships the students make as they meet each other. As a past student remarked, “There are people like me here!”
