2009 Hooverball National Championships
The 22nd Annual Hooverball National Championships were held during Hooverfest, August 1, 2009. This year, thirty-nine teams participated in the 4 lb. and 6 lb. tournaments, with participants from as close as West Branch, IA and as far as New Orleans, LA, and Munich, Germany. In honor of our "Salute to the Military," exhibition matches were held between the Army, Navy and Marines (with Jamie Kelley of the Cedar Rapids Gazette filling in on one of the Marine teams).
Three local teams won the championships this year, with each team taking home a traveling trophy, 2009 Hooverball CHAMPS t-shirts, and a prize check of $100.
