Hooverfest 2010: A Salute to Iowa Firefighters and EMTs!

Saturday, August 7
Herbert Hoover National Historic Site
West Branch, Iowa
I-80, exit 254, one hour west of the Mississippi River

Hooverfest is shaping up to be exciting and truly unforgettable with a "Salute to our Firefighters and EMTs."

The event begins at noon with an Honor Flag ceremony, a solemn presentation of the flag that flew at Ground Zero after 9/11. An honor guard will escort the flag from the rotunda of the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum to President Herbert and First Lady Lou Henry Hoover's gravesite where the flag will be raised in honor of all Fire and Rescue personnel.

John Avlon is the keynote speaker at this ceremony honoring those who risk their lives every day for fellow citizens. A speechwriter for New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Avlon led a team that wrote eulogies for all New York City firefighters, police officers, and emergency workers killed in the destruction of the World Trade Center. Avlon is an author and commentator on CNN.

Margaret Hoover, great-granddaughter of President Herbert Hoover, is the emcee for the opening ceremonies. She is a trustee of the Hoover Presidential Library Association and a FOX News Correspondent.

Activities are planned for everyone in the family and most begin at 10 am. Don't miss the Hooverball National Championships and a special Fire Fighters/EMTs tournament!

Enjoy special entertainment, a safety village, over 100 exhibitors/artists/crafters/food vendors, and of course, the signature Hooverfest fireworks choreographed to music.

It's a tradition in West Branch! It's free and it's fun! Bring lawn chairs and take advantage of free parking and shuttle service.
